MONTREAL, May 30, 2022 (Tennis Canada Press Release)
Tennis Canada is very pleased to announce that a new professional men’s tennis tournament governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) will be added to the Canadian tournament schedule. From October 24 to 30, the new Complexe tennis Saint-Augustin in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Québec, will host some 60 players from around the world at a new US$25,000 event.
“The arrival of a new international tournament in Canada is always great news for our players,” said Francis Milloy, Coordinator, Professional and National Events in Québec at Tennis Canada. “The event in SaintAugustin-de Desmaures will certainly provide an opportunity for several of our young Canadian players to experience their first professional tournament here at home, where they can make their mark and earn valuable ranking points.”
Hosted by the Complexe tennis Saint-Augustin, the event is among the 550 entry-level ITF professional men’s tennis tournaments held in 70 countries that act as a bridge between the international junior circuit and pro tours in high performance men’s tennis. The results count towards participants’ ATP rankings, opening the door to ATP Challenger, ATP and Grand Slam tournaments.
“Hosting a new ITF tournament in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is significant at so many levels. In addition to giving international visibility to the region, the competition will initiate several young players to the professional tour and serve as a prime preparatory step for the major events held in Canada,” affirmed tournament director Pierre-Luc Tessier. The tournament will be held right before the Challenger events in Drummondville and Calgary.
