SAINT BRIEUC, March 30, 2016

The top-seed of the €42,500 Open Harmonie Mutuelle was in action on Wednesday at the Salle Steredenn St. Brieuc, when Jan-Lennard Struff made a successful start into the tournament, winning 6-4, 6-4 against French qualifier Sadio Doumbia. The world number 109 from Germany lost his serve one time but capitalized on three of his own break point chances to advance after 64 minutes. Struff will take on compatriot Tobias Kamke next.

World number 323 Gleb Sakharov caused the upset of the day, knocking out fourth seed Luca Vanni 6-4, 7-6. The 27-year-old Frenchman withstood 15 aces, hitting eight on his own to prevail in one hour and 48 minutes. He will next play Germain Gigounon, who eased past Lorenzo Giustino 6-2, 6-4 in 72 minutes.

French wild card Alexandre Sidorenko took out seventh seed Egor Gerasimov, winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-1. The world number 379 fired 11 aces and won 78% of his first service points to finish the encounter after one hour and 43 minutes. Sidorenko  will meet Aslan Karatsev in the second round.

The tournament’s number eight also fell in his opening match, as Remi Boutillier emerged victorious from the all-French-affair with Quentin Halys. The world number 494 Grenoble resident won 51% of the total points, rallying 3-6, 6-3,  6-4 in one hour and 28 minutes. Boutillier will face Federico Gaio next, who benefited from the retirement of German qualifier Andreas Beck, leading 3-1. The 30-year-old stopped the match after 11 minutes due to a stomach virus.
