Two home favourites dominated Sunday’s action at the 29th edition of the Unicredit Czech Open, an €90,280 clay-court event held at the Tenisovy Klub Prostejov.
In the singles final of the longest-running ATP Challenger Tour tournament in the Czech Republic, Vit Kopriva defeated his 19-year-old compatriot Dalibor Svrcina 6-2, 6-2. Although the World No. 167 has already appeared in a semi-final and twice in the third round on the ATP Tour, Kopriva has not yet managed to win a Challenger title. He has already reached the semi-finals four times but only made it to the championship match this week in Prostejov.
Kopriva battled his way through the bottom half of the draw with wins over Argentine qualifier Francisco Comesano, No. 4 seed Pablo Andujar of Spain, Brazilian Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida and Filip Horansky from Slovakia.
Kopriva converted five of his nine break-point chances in the title match and won 57 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 56 minutes.

“It’s an incredible feeling. Winning a tournament at home is special. I was a bit more active in the match, which was why I was winning the rallies. However, it was a close match. The final score doesn’t quite reflect the course of the match. Dalibor was a tough opponent. I believe we will both continue to do fine,” said Kopriva, who has celebrated the biggest title win of his career.
The 24-year-old Bilovec native, champion of five ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments, earned €12,250 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.
