Jaume Munar of Spain and Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Internazionali Di Tennis Città Di Perugia| G.I.MA Tennis Cup.

Munar battled past Italian qualifier Luciano Darderi 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(5) in the stage of the last four on Saturday. The No. 2 seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court tournament capitalized on six of his 13 break-point opportunities to prevail after three hours and four minutes.

“The mental and emotional component was much more important than the physical one tonight,” Munar stated after the longest match of the day.

Etcheverry ended the run of German qualifier Maximilian Marterer with a solid 6-1, 7-6(4) win. The third-seeded defending champion converted four of his seven break-point chances and won 57 per cent of the total points played to advance in one hour and 45 minutes.

“I’m really happy to be back in the final. This city is becoming more and more important to me,” Etcheverry said after reaching his second consecutive title match in Perugia, the capital of Umbria. The World No. 90 is seeking his fourth ATP Challenger Tour title, his second of the season following his triumph in Concepcion in March.

Munar could also lift his second trophy of 2022 after winning on home soil in Marbella. The World No. 92 is bidding for his eighth Challenger career crown. Munar won the only previous meeting between the two earlier in the season in Buenos Aires.
