CORRIENTES/STARNBERG, June 15, 2022

The top two seeds of the Dove Men+Care Challenger Corrientes both opened their title bids with solid first-round wins on Tuesday. Juan Pablo Ficovich, ranked World No. 175 and No. 1 seed of the $37,520 clay-court event, defeated qualifier and fellow Argentine Tomas Farjat 6-1, 6-4.

The 25-year-old Buenos Aires native saved all three break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own six break-point chances to advance after one hour and 15 minutes. Ficovich will next face his compatriot Valerio Aboian, who beat unranked Argentine qualifier Francisco Tomas Geschwind 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 14 minutes.

Second-seeded Francisco Comesana, a winner of two ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments, eased past Japanese qualifier Naoki Nakagawa 6-2, 6-2. The World No. 285 sent down six aces and won 81 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in one hour and 11 minutes. Comesana will next play fellow Argentine Matias Franco Descotte, who edged out Conner Huertas del Pino of Peru 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 after two hours and 31 minutes.

In other action, No. 3 seed Nicolas Mejia of Colombia fell 6-2, 6-1 to Roman Andres Burruchaga of Argentina. The 20-year-old son of former footballer Jorge Burruchaga will next challenge Guido Andreozzi, who emerged victorious from the battle of the Argentine qualifiers with Leonardo Aboian,  1-6, 6-3, 7-6(2). The encounter lasted two hours and 22 minutes.
