Hubert Hurkacz has clinched the title of the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle. The No. 5 seed of the ATP 500 grass-court event beat top seed and World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev from Russia 6-1, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Hurkacz, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year, struck nine aces and won 84 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and three minutes.

“I’m super excited, I’ve been waiting a little bit for my first [title] this year,” said Hurkacz in his on-court interview. “I’m happy to win my first ATP 500 title and of course, on the grass it is very special.
“I was serving pretty good today and got a little bit of momentum from the first game. I saved a couple of deuces on my service game and then I managed to break Daniil’s serve so I definitely got a little bit of momentum. I’m very happy with the win in front of such a great crowd here.”
Twenty-five-year-old Hurkacz claimed his fifth ATP Tour career title, his first of the season and first on grass. The World No. 12 earned €399,170 in prize money as well as 500 ATP Ranking points.
Granollers/Zeballos take doubles crown
Earlier in the day, Marcel Granollers from Spain and Argentine Horacio Zeballos captured the doubles title. The top seeds battled past No. 3 seeds Tim Puetz of Germany and Michael Venus from New Zealand 6-4, 6-7(5), 14-12. The final lasted one hour and 52 minutes.

It is a first tour-level title for Granollers and Zeballos since they lifted the trophy at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati last August.
“To win in front of this great crowd in this beautiful stadium is a dream,” Granollers said. The duo is now 7-4 in ATP Tour finals. They split €131,110 in prize money and earned 500 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
