BERGAMO/STARNBERG, July 3, 2022
Oleksandr Ovcharenko captured his first title on the Pro Circuit by winning the Trofeo AZIMUT hosted by the Tennis Club Citta dei Mille in Bergamo, Italy. The 20-year-old Ukrainian defeated home favourite and No. 7 seed Gianmarco Ferrari 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Ovcharenko battled his way to the championship match of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 clay-court event with wins over Filippo Speziali of Italy, Austrian Sandro Kopp, third-seeded Italian Giovanni Oradini and local qualifier Andrea Picchione.
The World No. 601 sent down four aces and capitalized on both of his two break-point chances to seal victory in one hour and 13 minutes.
“I dedicate the success to my country, as well as all the other matches that I will win,” Ovcharenko said.
