Serbian teenager Hamad Medjedovic capped his dream week in Germany by winning his maiden ATP Challenger crown at the second edition of the Platzmann Sauerland Open in Lüdenscheid. The 18-year-old qualifier cruised past Zhizhen Zhang of China 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.
Following two wins in the qualifying, Medjedovic beat Vitaliy Sachko from Ukraine, Filip Horansky of Slovakia, Italy’s Marco Cecchinato and Nicolas Jarry from Chile in the main draw.
Medjedovic was in total control of the championship match, didn’t face a break point and converted five of his own six break-point chances to prevail after only 48 minutes.

“This is definitely the best week of my life. I had seven matches against good players,” said Medjedovic and added about the final: “When I broke my opponent for the first time, that gave me a lot of energy. Then I felt that I could win today.”
Following three title wins on the ITF World Tennis Tour earlier in the season, the World No. 395 lifted his maiden Challenger trophy and pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
