TODI/STARNBERG, July 10, 2022
Pedro Cachin and Nicolas Kicker will meet in an all-Argentine singles final at the €45,730 Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi on Sunday. Top seed Cachin battled past 20-year-old Italian wild card entry Francesco Passaro 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-1 in the stage of the last four on Saturday. The World No. 120 outpointed his compatriot 111-98 after two hours and 17 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Kicker also had to go the distance to overcome Daniel Masur of Germany 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. The World No. 237 from Merlo converted three of his 12 break-point chances to advance in two hours and 18 minutes.
Cachin is seeking his fourth career crown on the ATP Challenger Tour, his third of the season following his triumphs in Madrid and Prague. Kicker could also lift his fourth Challenger trophy, his first since 2017.
Kicker leads the pair’s head-to-head series 3-1. “I expect the usual fight between Argentines,” said Cachin of the upcoming championship match. “He beat me three times, but I won the last match in Brazil at the end of 2021 and I hope to be able to repeat this victory tomorrow.”
