This week on the ATP Tour, Hamburg and Gstaad play host to a pair of clay-court events in western Europe.
Carlos Alcaraz is the top seed on tournament debut at the Hamburg European Open, where the 19-year-old Spaniard is chasing his fifth ATP Tour title of 2022. How will World No. 6 Alcaraz handle being the headline act at the Rothenbaum Tennis Tournament?
“I don’t feel pressure,” said Alcaraz in Germany on Sunday. “I am motivated by it.”
Joining the teenager in a strong field at the ATP 500 event in northern Germany is fellow Top 10 star Andrey Rublev of Russia, who is chasing his fourth ATP Tour title of the 2022 season.
A host of other players with renowned clay-court skills is also chasing glory in Hamburg, including third seed and four-time tour-level titlist Diego Schwartzman from Argentina, defending champion Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain and emerging talents Holger Rune from Denmark and Argentine Sebastian Baez.

Casper Ruud is the defending champion and top seed in the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad, where the Norwegian is chasing his eighth clay-court title. Matteo Berrettini returns to the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad for the first time since winning his maiden ATP Tour title here in 2018. The World No. 15 from Italy will compete in just his second clay-court tournament of the season.
