Moro Canas Continues Fine Run Of Form In Pozoblanco

World No. 317 Alejandro Moro Canas has reached his first quarterfinal on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 21-year-old Spaniard beat former Top 40 player Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia 6-4, 6-0 in the second round of the Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco on a hot Wednesday afternoon in the province of Cordoba.

Moro Canas, who entered the main draw of the €45,730 hard-court event with a wild card awarded by the Spanish Tennis Federation and upset defending champion Altug Celikbilek his opening match, converted five of his nine break points to seal victory in one hour and 10 minutes.

The Madrid native will next take on Daniel Masur from Germany, who knocked off fourth-seeded Frenchman Hugo Grenier 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 42 minutes.

In the top half of the draw, Ugo Humbert battled past Paul Jubb of Great Britain 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(4). The No. 3 seed from France sent down seven aces and won 78 per cent of his first-service point to prevail in two hours and 34 minutes.

Humbert will next play US-American Emilio Nava, who outlasted No. 5 seed Vasek Pospisil from Canada 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-2. The encounter lasted two hours and 19 minutes.
