NAPOLI, April 6, 2016

Four second round matches were scheduled on Wednesday at the €42,500 Capri Watch Cup in Napoli with Italian wild card Salvatore Caruso headlining the action. In front of almost fully packed stands, the world number 260 from Avola knocked-off eighth seed Mirza Basic, winning 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Caruso sent down eight aces and won 70% of his first service points to advance after two hours and 28 minutes.

“I am really glad to win the match,” Caruso seemed to be relieved afterwards. “It was really tough but I stayed focused after losing the tie-break of the second set. My coach always says that winning the last point is the most important thing. That’s what I did today.”

Caruso will take on Marius Copil next. The 25-year-old from Romania beat Gianluca Mager 6-4, 6-3. Copil fired 12 aces and saved all three break points he faced, converting three of his own to prevail in 64 minutes.

Sixth seed Gastao Elias ousted with Stefano Napolitano another local wild card, winning 7-5, 6-2. The world number 122 from Portugal capitalized on six of his 14 break point chances, setting a quarterfinals meeting with Uladzmir Ignatik after one hour and 43 minutes. Ignatik overcame Adrian Ungur 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 19 minutes.
