The second round of the €42,500 Capri Watch Cup in Napoli concluded on Thursday with the two top-seeds falling.
Arthur de Greef knocked out the tournament’s number one Filip Krajinovic 6-4, 7-5. The world number 206 from Belgium capitalized on four of his seven break point chances to prevail in one hour and 34 minutes. De Greef will face Roberto Carballés-Baena next. The fifth seed from Spain overcame Alessandro Giannessi 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Carballés won 68% of his first service points and 95 of the total 178 points played to advance after two hours and 10 minutes.
Second favourite Rogerio Dutra Silva fell to Jozef Kovalik. The world number 171 from Slovakia sent down three aces, winning 76% of his first service points to reach the quarterfinals after two hours and one minute. Kovalik will take on Filippo Volandri in the stage of the last eight, who emerged victorious from the all-Italian-affair with Gianluca Naso. The 34-year-old from Livorno won 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in one hour and 54 minutes.
