NAPOLI, April 8, 2016
Arthur de Greef continues his successful run at the €42,500 Capri Watch Cup in Napoli, winning his quarterfinal match against fifth seed Roberto Carballés-Baena 7-6, 6-3. The world number 206 from Belgium knocked out the tournament’s number one Filip Krajinovic on Thursday, gaining another victory against one of seeds. De Greef won 77% of his first service points and converted three of his seven break point chances to secure a 7-6, 6-3 win in one hour and 42 minutes.
De Greef will take on Marius Copil next. The 25-year-old Romanian eased past Italian wild card Salvatore Caruso, winning 6-0, 6-2 in only 48 minutes.
“I played one of the best matches in my career,” Copil was overwhelmed afterwards. “I am practicing a lot with my new team and try to adapt to all surfaces. I like the tournament here very much. It’s well organized and everything’s fine.”
Sixth favourite Gastao Elias dismissed Uladzimir Ignatik, winning 6-2, 6-2. The world number 122, who also won the only previous meeting between the two in the Davis Cup last year, saved both break points he faced, converting four of his own to advance after one hour and 19 minutes. Elias will play Jozef Kovalik next. The 23-year-old from Slovakia took out Filippo Volandri 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Kovalik capitalized on five of his 12 break point chances to prevail in two hours and 14 minutes.
