Frederico Ferreira Silva headlined Wednesday’s second-round action at the Internationeaux de Toulouse being held at the Stade Toulousain Tennis Club. The World No. 254 upset Carlos Taberner of Spain, top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 80 clay-court tournament hosted by the Stade Toulousain Tennis Club, 6-4-, 7-6(4).

Ferreira Silva, a winner of 16 ITF World Tennis Tour events but still seeking his maiden Challenger crown, converted three of his four break-point chances to secure victory in two hours and 14 minutes.

The 27-year-old Portuguese will take on French wild card entry Titouan Droguet in the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old, who lifted his second trophy on the Pro Circuit at the Torneo Internacional RST La Magdalena in Santander, Spain, continued his fine run of form with a 6-4, 7-6(1) win over Spaniard Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo in two hours and 18 minutes.

Later in the afternoon, second-seeded Swede Elias Ymer also fell in the second round. The World No. 133 lost 6-3, 4-6, 1-6 to 2021 French Open Boys’ singles champion Luca van Assche. The 18-year-old Frenchman withstood 12 aces and broke Ymer’s serve six times to succeed in two hours and 37 minutes.

Van Assche will next face Belgian qualifier Kimmer Coppejans, who cruised past local wild card entry Arthur Reymond 6-0, 6-0 in only 48 minutes.
