VIENNA, September 2, 2022

Only 50 days until the start of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna and home favourite Dominic Thiem will return to the Stadthalle this year. The World No. 211, who missed last year’s edition due to injury, will compete in the ATP 500 hard-court event from October 22 to 30. Thiem will celebrate his 29th birthday tomorrow.

“We look forward to Dominic’s return to the Stadthalle in Vienna. The atmosphere during his matches was always very special in recent years, and this year will be no different. We wish him all the best for his birthday and a lot of success for the upcoming weeks and months,” said tournament director Herwig Straka.

“It is just fantastic to play in Vienna again this year. I have so many great memories from this tournament, so my victory in 2019 was one of the most emotional moments in my career,” said Thiem, who will be joined by World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev of Russia, defending champion Alexander Zverev from Germany, Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, Italian Matteo Berrettini and last year’s finalist Frances Tiafoe from the United States.
