LINZ/STARNBERG, September 12, 2022
The 32nd edition of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz will take place from February 5 to 12, 2023. This was announced by the organizers of the WTA 250 hard-court tournament on Monday.
“We have been thinking about a new date for a long time. Now, due to many shifts in the tournament calendar, we had the chance for a change. With the new date, we can continue writing the history of the second-oldest women’s indoor tournament in the world in February after the Australian swing. Just like we started 31 years ago. We are currently experiencing a wonderful memory of the birth of the Linz WTA tournament,” says tournament director Sandra Reichel.
From 1991 to 1998 the Upper Austria Ladies Linz was held in February before it became part of the WTA Tour tournaments staged in October or November. Last year, US-American Alison Riske claimed her third career title with a three-set win over Romanian lucky loser Jaqueline Cristian.
Meanwhile, tournament founder Peter-Michael Reichel was recently honored by Linz Mayor Klaus Luger, together with five other personalities, who have had a positive impact on public life, “as a sign of recognition and appreciation”.
