Frenchman Corentin Moutet has clinched the title of the Pekao Szczecin Open. The No. 4 seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court tournament fought past seventh-seeded Austrian Dennis Novak 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.

Moutet, 23, battled his way to the championship match through the bottom half of the draw with wins over Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo of Spain, Italians Gianluca Mager and Matteo Arnaldi as well as Alexander Shevchenko from Russia.

The World No. 84 broke Novak’s serve seven times and won 53 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in two hours and 26 minutes.

“I’m really happy to win here, especially today, it was a really hard match. Every time I’m playing against Dennis it is a hard fight, so I am really glad that I won this time,” Moutet said during the on-court ceremony.

“I spent good week here on clay. After the US Open it is a good result for the first tournament on clay, so I am really happy about it. I feel healthy, I still feel fresh for the next week. I am really happy about my feelings, about the way I play. I am really satisfied about my game this week.”

By lifting his sixth ATP Challenger career trophy, his second of 2022 after prevailing on home soil in Lyon in June, Moutet €18,290 in prize money and 125 ATP Ranking points.
