VILLA MARIA/STARNBERG, September 21, 2022
Eleven Argentines booked their second-round spots on home soil at the inaugural Challenger Dove Men+Care Villa Maria on Tuesday. One of them was wild card entry Lautaro Midon, who recorded his second main draw win at ATP Challenger Tour level following his triumph over Tunisian veteran Malek Jaziri in Corrientes in June.
The 18-year-old, who captured three titles on the ITF World Junior Tour this year and reached a career-high ranking of World No. 8, defeated local qualifier Ignacio Monzon 6-3, 6-3. Midon capitalized on six of his 10 break-point chances to seal victory in one hour and 32 minutes.
World No. 1087 Midon will next challenge seventh-seeded Argentine Renzo Olivo, who beat his 19-year-old compatriot and wild card Alex Barrena 7-6(5), 6-0 in one hour and 45 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli also advanced to the second round with a comfortable 6-2, 6-0 victory over qualifier Alejo Lorenzo Lingua. The World No. 119 was in total control of the match between the two gauchos, winning 61 per cent of the total points played. Ugo Carabelli prevailed in one hour and 12 minutes and will next take on fellow Argentine Mariano Navone.
Facundo Bagnis edged past Brazilian qualifier Orlando Luz 6-2, 6-4. The No. 3 from Argentina broke his rival’s serve four times to succeed in one hour and 29 minutes. Up next for Bagnis is another player from Brazil, as Daniel Dutra da Silva beat home favourite Roman Andres Burruchaga 7-6(2), 6-2 in one hour and 34 minutes.
