World No. 11 and defending champion Hubert Hurkacz of Poland returned to the semi-finals of the Moselle Open in Metz following a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech on Friday. The No. 2 seed of the ATP 250 indoor hard-court tournament fired 12 aces, saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on three of his own six break-point chances to prevail after one hour and six minutes.

Hurkacz, who can return to the Top 10 by reaching the final in northeastern France, will next take on Lorenzo Sonego. The 27-year-old Italian has won all six sets he’s played this week, including his 6-4, 6-4 victory in one hour and 28 minutes against Sebastian Korda from the United States.
In the top half of the draw, Stan Wawrinka edged past Mikael Ymer from Sweden 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) to reach the stage of the last four at a tour-level event for the first time since January 2020. The 37-year-old Swiss qualifier outpointed his rival 114-111 in two hours and 50 minutes.

Wawrinka will next play Alexander Bublik. The No. 7 seed from Kazakhstan battled past fourth favourite Holger Rune of Denmark 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in one hour and 58 minutes.
