“I’m really happy, because this is my first final this year, and I’ve played so well day after day,” said Sonego after the match. ”I’m really happy for that. Hubi is a great server, and it’s very tough to return the ball, but today I played so well and I enjoyed every moment on court.”
Sonego will play for his third ATP Tour title in the championship match.
Seventh-seeded Kazakh Bublik advanced to his second tour-level championship match of the season after Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland was forced to retire due to an injury after just three games of the pair’s clash in the stage of the final four. Sonego leads the head-to-head record with Bublik 3-0.
