BUENOS AIRES/STARNBERG, October 1, 2022
Three Argentines have reached the semi-finals of the $53,120 Challenger de Buenos Aires led by No. 4 seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli. The 23-year-old from Buenos Aires battled past his compatriot Renzo Olivo 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on Friday.
In the pair’s second meeting, home favourite Ugo Carabelli broke his rival’s serve four times and won 54 per cent of the total points played to seal his first victory over Olivo in two hours and 28 minutes.
“I am very happy to win in a place where I feel comfortable. I even come here to play paddle tennis when I can,” said Ugo Carabelli.
The World No. 117, who captured two ATP Challenger Tour titles this season, one of them here in Buenos Aires in May, will next take on Dmitry Popko.
The 25-year-old from Kazakhstan also had to go the distance to outlast local wild card entry Roman Andres Burruchaga 7-5, 0-6, 6-2 in two hours and 22 minutes.

In the top half of the draw, Mariano Navone continued his fine run of form on home soil. The 21-year-old, who finished runner-up to Nicolas Kicker at the Villa Maria Challenger last week, showed a solid performance during his 6-3, 6-1 win over Brazilian qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild. Navone capitalized on six of his seven break-point chances to advance in one hour and 19 minutes.
Up next for the World No. 265 will be Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who knocked out fifth favourite Facundo Bagnis in an all-Argentine affair 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and 21 minutes.
In the doubles final, second seeds Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran of Argentina will take on their compatriots and No. 4 seeds Roman Andres Burruchaga and Facundo Diaz Acosta.
