Top seed Denis Kudla from the United States moved on to the singles quarterfinals of the Tiburon Challenger after defeating Swiss youngster Leondro Riedi 6-2, 6-3 in only 54 minutes on Thursday.
Kudla will next face No. 5 seed Enzo Couacaud of France, who rallied past Australian qualifier Luke Saville 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 in one hour and 47 minutes.
Alexis Galarneau of Canada caused the upset of the day by knocking out second-seeded US-American Stefan Kozlov 6-1, 7-5 in one hour and 42 minutes and will next play Briton Paul Jubb, a 6-2, 6-3 winner over qualifier Alex Michelsen from the United States.
