Lima Challenger Quarterfinals Are Set

The quarterfinals of the Lima 2 Challenger are set. The $53,120 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event is being held at the Tennis Club Las Terrazas Miraflores in Peru.

No. 4 seed Daniel Altmaier booked his spot in the stage of the final four on Thursday with a hard-fought 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win over Franco Agamenone of Italy. The 24-year-old German sent down four aces and broke his rival’s serve seven times to seal victory in two hours and 28 minutes.

Altmaier will next take on Santiago Rodriguez Taverna of Argentina, who defeated No. 8 seed Timofey Skatov from Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 32 minutes.

In other action, second-seeded Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry edged past his compatriot and qualifier Genaro Alberto Olivieri 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. The World No. 89 from La Plata, a three-time champion on the ATP Challenger Tour, won 55 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 20 minutes.

Up next for Etcheverry will be Felipe Meligeni Alves of Brazil, who beat Gerald Melzer from Austria 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 24 minutes.
