Federico Coria leads the semi-finals line-up of the Lima 2 Challenger. The top seed of the $53,120 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event, being held at the Tennis Club Las Terrazas Miraflores in Peru, edged past French qualifier Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6(4), 7-6(5) on Friday.
Coria withstood 11 aces and outpointed his rival 96-80 after one hour and 57 minutes. The World No. 73 from Argentina, a four-time champion on the Challenger Circuit, will next take on fourth-seeded German Daniel Altmaier. The 24-year-old Kempen native rallied past Santiago Rodriguez Taverna from Argentina 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 in two hours and 13 minutes.
Two Gauchos will face each other in the bottom half of the draw, as No. 2 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry will take on lucky loser Roman Andres Burruchaga in the stage of the last four. Etcheverry defeated Felipe Meligeni Alves of Brazil 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 34 minutes. Burruchaga outlasted Serbian qualifier Nikola Milojevic 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-4 in the longest encounter of the day, which lasted three hours and one minute.
