After a thrilling year-long battle in the Pepperstone ATP Race To Milan, the world’s best 21-and-under players descend on Milan this week for the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals.
Lorenzo Musetti of Italy leads the way at the Allianz Cloud, where he made his debut in front of his home fans at the prestigious event last year. US-American Brandon Nakashima, a 2021 semi-finalist, will try to make an even deeper run this edition.
They will face stiff competition from a deep field, which includes Briton Jack Draper, Czech Jiri Lehecka, Chinese Taipei’s Chun-Hsin Tseng, Swiss Dominic Stricker and Italians Francesco Passaro and Matteo Arnaldi.
New In 2022
New rules are in play for the eight #NextGenFinals competitors when action gets underway Tuesday in Milan, including a quicker shot clock, one sit-down per set and off-court coaching. The first-to-four-games, best-of-five-sets format remains in Milan, where rule changes designed to enhance the flow of the game will also be used this year. They include a quicker 15-second shot clock after aces and double faults or if the returner misses the return through forced or unforced error, a reduction to just one sit-down per set, and three-minute warm-ups.
