Altmaier Continues Fine Run Of Form At Uruguay Open

Daniel Altmaier extended his winning streak on the South American ATP Challenger Tour clay-court swing to 12 matches, as he reached the quarterfinals of the Uruguay Open. The No. 3 seed from Germany defeated Felipe Meligeni Alves of Brazil 7-6(5), 6-3 on Wednesday.

Altmaier, who clinched two consecutive Challenger titles in Lima, Peru as well as in Guayaquil, Ecaudor in the past two weeks, sent down six aces and won 66 per cent of his first-service points to prevail in one hour and 44 minutes.

World No. 80 Altmaier will next take on Nicolas Kicker of Argentina, who rallied past Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida from Brazil 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 51 minutes.

In other second-round action, second-seeded Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated his compatriot Mariano Navone 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 22 minutes and will face Facundo Diaz Acosta of Argentina in the stage of the final eight.
