The quarterfinals of the Uruguay Open are set. After the withdrawal of top seed Federico Coria ahead of the start of the ATP Challenger Tour 80 clay-court tournament, the top half of the draw will be led by No. 4 seed Facundo Bagnis.

The 103rd-ranked Argentine overcame a slow start to outlast his compatriot and qualifier Juan Pablo Paz 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-0 on Thursday. Bagnis sent down six aces and won 77 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 51 minutes.

The 32-year-old from Rosario will next take on fellow Argentine Marco Trungelliti, who edged past Dutch qualifier Max Houkes 7-6(6), 6-2 in one hour and 53 minutes.

In other second-round action, Franco Agamenone defeated Tunisian qualifier Moez Echargui 7-5, 6-3. The World No. 154 from Italy converted six of his eight break-point chances to succeed in two hours and seven minutes. Up next for Agamenone will be Genaro Alberto Oliveri of Argentina, a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Gastao Elias from Portugal. The encounter lasted one hour and 42 minutes.
