The semi-finals of the HPP Open are set and led by World No. 112 Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic. The fifth seed of the €67,960 ATP Challenger Tour hard-court event beat Belgian Zizou Bergs 6-1, 6-2 in Helsinki on Friday afternoon.
Machac, who is bidding for his third Challenger trophy of the season following his triumphs in Traralgon, Australian and Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland, saved all four break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own 11 break-point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and four minutes.
The 22-year-old will next take on Yannick Hanfmann of Germany, who edged past Kazakh qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 16 minutes.
Riedi reaches stage of final four
In the top half of the draw, Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi continued his fine run of form this week in Finland with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bulgarian alternate Dimitar Kuzmanov. The 20-year-old Frauenfeld native struck five aces and won 59 per cent of the total points played to advance in one hour and 13 minutes.

Riedi will next face Jelle Sels. The eighth-seeded Dutchman defeated Adrian Andreev of Bulgaria 6-3, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 31 minutes.
