Australia are into the semi-finals of the Davis Cup by Rakuten for the first time since 2017 and for just the third time in the past 15 years after defeating the Netherlands 2-0 on Tuesday evening in Malaga, Spain.

Alex de Minaur secured the winning point with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Botic van de Zandschulp after Jordan Thompson had earlier given his side the lead with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win against Tallon Griekspoor.

“We’ve got a great team, a lot of belief and a lot of passion,” De Minaur said afterward his victory, quoted by Davis Cup.com. “I’m very happy to win today. Every single one of these players on our team is going to play their heart out. We’ll do everything we can for our country.”

Australia will play the winner of the tie between Spain and Croatia on Friday. Croatia, led by World No. 17 Marin Cilic, were finalists last year. While the Spanish team, spearheaded by 13th-ranked Pablo Carreno Busta, claimed the Davis Cup title in 2019.
