Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, the current World No. 2 and a two-time major finalist this year, has entered the 2023 Credit One Charleston Open, in Charleston, S.C.
Jabeur, a 2022 Charleston finalist, is the fifth Top-20 start to commit to next April’s WTA 500 tournament, which is the annual clay-season kickoff event on the WTA Hologic Tour and the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America. It will be held April 1-9, 2023 in the renovated and modernized Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island in Charleston. She joins World No. 3 Jessica Pegula of the United States, World No. 13 Paula Badosa of Spain, as well as reigning champion Belinda Bencic of Switzerland (currently ranked 12th) and past champions Madison Keys (currently ranked 11th) and No. 37 Sloane Stephens, both of the United States.

“Ons has had a sensational season,” said Bob Moran, Tournament Director of the Credit One Charleston Open and President of Charleston Tennis LLC, in a statement. “Not only did she reach our finals in April, but she was a Wimbledon and US Open finalist and captured two titles in 2022.
“We have supported Ons throughout her career and our Charleston fans have rallied behind her after her success, not only in the Lowcountry but around the world. Our player commitments going into next year are strong and we will continue to round out our player field and fan experiences for the 2023 Credit One Charleston Open.”
Jabeur, 28, who finished the current season with a 47-17 win-loss record, captured titles at Madrid and Berlin and also qualified for the WTA Finals for the first time. Next year’s Credit One Charleston Open will be her fifth time competing in the field, where she’s 10-4 on the green clay. She was also a semifinalist in 2021 as well as a finalist in the 2021 MUSC Health Women’s Open, a one-time WTA Hologic Tour 250 event in Charleston.

The nine-day 2023 Credit One Charleston Open, which celebrated its 50th year this season, will include a singles draw of 56 players, a qualifying draw of 32 players and a doubles draw of 16 players. The event traditionally attracts more than 90,000 fans to Daniel Island.
