TULLN, August 22, 2023
The ATP Challenger Tour will return to Austria for the third edition of the NÖ Open powered by EVN. The €118,000 clay-court tournament will be held at the Tennis Club Tulln from September 4 to 10.
The first 21 players of the entry list this year come from 13 different nations and are eligible for the main singles draw based on their ATP rankings. The 32-player main draw will be completed with six qualifiers, three wildcard entrants (selected by the Austrian Tennis Federation ÖTV and the tournament organizers), and two Special Exempts. Out of the 21 direct acceptances, 18 have previously secured a spot on the ATP Challenger Tour winners’ list.
The field is led by Spanish veteran Albert Ramos-Viñolas. The left-hander from Barcelona is ranked 90th in the world rankings, just two weeks before his debut in Tulln. The 35-year-old has previously been ranked as high as number 17 in the world and has captured four ATP titles and five Challenger victories in his career.
Seeded second is Jurij Rodionov, Austria’s current number 3. At the time of entry, he holds the 104th spot in the ATP rankings. The 24-year-old from Lower Austria aims to secure his second Challenger title of the year in Tulln, following his victory in Biel, Switzerland, and hopes to climb as far as possible into the Top 100. The six-time Challenger winner is eagerly anticipating the hometown tournament in Tulln, stating, “I always feel very comfortable there!”
