ANTWERP, August 31, 2023
Dominic Thiem will compete in this year’s European Open in Antwerp. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 tournament on Thursday. Belgium’s only ATP Tour event offers a total prize money of €673,670 and will be held from October 16 to 22 at the Lotto Arena.
“It is quite an honor to have Thiem here again,” said tournament director Dick Norman. “His performances earlier this year showed that he is successfully working his way back.”
In 2022, Thiem reached the semi-finals of the European Open. The Austrian defeated Belgian Michael Geerts, Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina and Hubert Hurkacz from Poland. However, US-American Sebastian Korda proved to be too strong in the stage of the final four in three sets.
“That we can once again add Dominic Thiem to our list of players is a great honor. He is proving in recent months and also this week at the US Open that he is back. His nickname Dominator says it all: his tenacity on court is inspiring, his presence will certainly increase the intensity of the tournament. We are delighted to welcome him back and look forward to great tennis matches with him,” Norman added.
