VANCOUVER/STARNBERG, September 22, 2023
On Friday, the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver, Canada will kick off with Team Europe taking on Team World.
On Wednesday, the teams came together for official photos in anticipation of this team event, and on Thursday, the players made their last-minute preparations in Canada. Additionally, the Day 1 Order of Play has been revealed, where each match will carry a value of one point.
Team World, led by recent US Open semi-finalist Ben Shelton, will seek a strong start as they face off against Arthur Fils of Team Europe, who is making his Laver Cup debut. The day’s other two singles match-ups will feature Francisco Cerundolo (Team World) against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (Team Europe) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (Team World) taking on the challenge of Gael Monfils (Team Europe).
“Being back in a team environment, I feel really comfortable. I am really excited to be on this team with these guys, guys the last few years I have been watching tear it up on tour, been watching tear it up in this event, so really happy to be here,” said Shelton. “I am looking forward for the chance to set the tone for the team.”
“The guys are really nice [helping with English] except Foe that I don’t understand anything.” 😂@FranCerundolo is pumped to be part of Team World for the first time.#LaverCup pic.twitter.com/q0RXvol6O8

In the first doubles match of the competition, Team World’s Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe will square off against Team Europe’s duo of Fils and Andrey Rublev.
“It’s amazing to be part of the team. We have great champions like this. I mean, I’m the new one, so the rookie,” Fils said with a smile on his face. “I’m really happy to be part of the team, and tomorrow I have two great matches. First against Ben, and then in doubles with Andrey. So I will do my maximum to help the team and to win some points.”
