The ATP Challenger Tour is back in Spain for the sixth edition of the Alicante Ferrero Challenger being held this week at the JC Ferrero Equelite Academy in Villena, situated on the the east coast of the Peninsula.
Constant Lestienne, the top seed of the €118,000 hard-court event, booked his spot in the quarterfinals following a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win over US-American Emilio Nava on Wednesday. The World No. 94 from France, who beat Italy’s Federico Gaio in straight sets in his opening match, won 91 per cent of his first-service points and broke his rival’s serve six times to advance in only 52 minutes.
Next up for Lestienne will be local wild card entry Martin Landaluce, who edged out No. 5 seed Arthur Cazaux of France 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in two hours and 15 minutes.
In other action in the top half of the draw, qualifier Martin Damm from the United States defeated Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-3 and will next play Germany’s Maxilian Marterer, a 6-3, 7-5 winner over defending champion Lukas Klein from Slovakia.
