For the first time in the history of the Open Brest Crédit Agricole, a Spanish player has claimed the title in Brest, a port city in the Finistère department in Brittany. In front of about 3,000 spectators inside the Brest Arena, Pedro Martinez defeated fourth-seeded Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi 7-6(6), 7-6(1) in Sunday’s singles final.

The World No. 136 from Valencia withstood 13 aces and won five points more than his opponent to secure victory in two hours and 16 minutes.

Martinez showcased a steady rise in form throughout the week, with a particularly hard-fought match in the semi-finals against No. 5 seed Constant Lestienne from France. By lifting his fourth ATP Challenger Tour career trophy, his first since 2021, Martinez earned €16,020 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.

This victory brings Martinez closer to the Top 100, placing him around the 123rd position with this success. Martinez also announced that he will become a father for the first time in a few weeks: “I was focused on this final, but also eager to go home and meet my wife,” he said.

The Spaniard, who was not on his home turf, managed, thanks to his unwavering determination, to emerge victorious in today’s final against the Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.”
