The South American clay-court swing on the ATP Tour kicks off this week in Argentina with the sixth edition of the Cordoba Open. Cordoba is a captivating city that seamlessly blends history, culture, and natural beauty. As the capital of the province of Cordoba, this city stands as a testament to Argentina’s rich heritage and vibrant present. Nestled in the heart of the country, 435 miles north-west of Buenos Aires, Cordoba offers a unique experience for both residents and visitors.
Bagnis beats Cerundolo
Main draw action of the ATP Tour 250 event began on Monday when Argentine qualifier Facundo Bagnis continued his good run of form on home soil, defeating his compatriot and 2021 champion Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-4, 6-2.
After overcoming fellow countrymen Santiago Rodríguez Taverna and Thiago Tirante in the qualifying, World No. 207 Bagnis maintained his level in the main draw’s first round, seeking revenge against Cerundolo, who had defeated him in their two previous encounters.

“I expected a different start because I had rested a lot and felt good, but at the beginning, I struggled due to the heat. The key was to stay in the game during a close first set. Then I started to loosen up, getting into a flow and it became it easier,” said Bagnis after securing his first tour-level victory of the year, his first since Gstaad 2023.
The 2021 Cordoba Open semifinalist will next face either Argentine Mariano Navone, one of three wild card entries, or Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena, in the second round on Tuesday.
In other action, Spaniard Jaume Munar defeated Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan 6-2, 6-4 and will take on the tournament’s top seed and home favourite Francisco Cerundolo, who leads their head-to-head series 2-0.
