MUNICH, March 12, 2024
One month ahead of the start of the tournament, two former finalists have already confirmed their participation in the 2024 BMW Open. Dominic Thiem received the first wild card into the main draw of the ATP 250 tournament, which will be held from April 13 to 21 at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos in Munich.
The 30-year-old Austrian, who finished runner-up to local hero Philipp Kohlschreiber in 2016, is eager to return to the Bavarian capital.
“I can’t wait to play in Munich again and I’m looking forward to the spectators on site,” said Thiem, who is competing on the ATP Challenger Tour the upcoming weeks.
Struff strengthens German contingent
World No. 25 Jan-Lennard Struff, who reached the BMW Open final in 2021 but lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia, will also be part of this year’s line-up in Munich.
“We are very pleased to welcome the German No. 1 and No. 2 in Munich,” tournament director Patrik Kühnen said about “Struffi’s” commitment. The World No. 25 joins home favourite Alexander Zverev and two-time defending champion Holger Rune of Denmark, who both had already announced their participation in the clay-court event, which will be part of the ATP 500 series next year.
