Casper Ruud achieved a remarkable feat at the Gonet Geneva Open, securing his third consecutive title at the ATP 250 clay-court event in Switzerland. The 25-year-old Norwegian faced a challenging schedule due to rain delays that pushed his semi-final match to Saturday.

No. 2 seed Ruud showcased his resilience by saving a match point to defeat Flavio Cobolli of Italy 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) in the semi-finals. He then swiftly returned to the court to overcome Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-3 in the title match, completing a hard-fought double header to triumph once again in the Romandy.

“He definitely deserved to win the first set, but that’s tennis sometimes. It’s not always fair,” Ruud said after the final.

“It was a challenging week. All the matches are tough, no matter who you play. Tough to find a groove, the weather has been a bit challenging all week but today was fantastic. I feel very happy to win again here in Geneva. It’s been a very good season so far.”

The World No. 7 captured his 12th career title and currently leads the ATP Tour with 34 wins this season. Ruud has made history as the first three-time champion of the Geneva Open. He pocketed a prize purse of €88,125 and collected 250 ATP Ranking points.

The 23-year-old Machac, who knocked out World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, appeared in his first title match on the ATP Tour. He earned € 51,400 in prize money as well as 165 ATP Ranking points, which propels him to a new career-high of World No. 34 in the Live-Rankings.
