Schwaerzler became the fourth Austrian Junior Grand Slam titlist in doubles, following in the footsteps of his coach, Austrian Tennis Federation (ÖTV) Sports Director and Davis Cup captain Jürgen Melzer (Wimbledon 1999), Nikolaus Moser (US Open 2008), and Lucas Miedler (Australian Open 2014). With this achievement, ÖTV junior players have now claimed the junior doubles trophy at each of the four biggest tournaments in the world. The only singles champion from Austria remains Jürgen Melzer.
“I am, of course, incredibly happy. Nonetheless, my focus has always been on singles, and I want to pursue a singles career, but it is definitely something special to win a doubles title at a Grand Slam,” said Schwaerzler.
