Gomez Wins Citta Di Trieste Challenger

Federico Agustin Gomez captured the title of the Citta di Trieste Challenger. The 27-year-old Argentine defeated Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.

Gomez, who entered the main draw as an alternate, booked his place in the championship match of the ATP Challenger Tour 100 clay-court tournament with wins over Alibek Kachmazov from Russia, seventh-seeded Frenchman Ugo Blanchet, Enrico Dalla Valle of Italy and Portuguese youngster Henrique Rocha.

Gomez was in total control of the final didn’t face a break point and capitalized on five of his own 10 break-point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 11 minutes.

The World No. 224 secured his 12th match win in a row and lifted his second trophy on the Challenger Circuit following his maiden triumph in Milan, Italy two weeks ago. Gomez pocketed €16,550 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.
