Raphael Collignon has clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the fourth edition of the Platzmann Open in Lüdenscheid, Germany. The Belgian alternate outlasted top seed Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

Collignon overcame a slow start and started to find his rhythm in the second set. The World No. 306 broke his rival’s serve seven times and won 51 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 31 minutes.

Following seven title wins on the ITF World Tennis Tour, three of them this season, Collignon lifted his first Challenger career trophy. The 22-year-old earned € 16,550 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.

The doubles final ended with Dutch celebrations. David Pel and Bart Stevens triumphed in a match tiebreak against compatriot Matwe Middelkoop and Ukrainian Denys Molchanov 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 after one hour and 20 minutes.

Two years ago, another Dutch team, Robin Haase and Sem Verbeek, had also won the crown at the Platzmann Open.
