ZHUHAI/STARNBERG, September 13, 2024
Team Germany has already secured its ticket for the final round in Malaga before the last matchday of the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage in Zhuhai.
After two commanding 3-0 victories against Slovakia and Chile, with only one set lost, the German team can no longer be displaced from one of the top two spots, which are sufficient for qualification. The entry into the final round, which was already within reach after yesterday’s win, was confirmed on Friday by the victory of Team USA in their tie against Slovakia.
On Saturday, Germany will face the USA in the group decider. With a victory, the Germans would be seeded in Malaga as one of the top four teams and would meet a group runner-up in the quarterfinals.
“The qualification for the Finals in Malaga after 2022 is a great success. The way we performed here in Zhuhai and secured our place in the final round without losing a match, even before the last game, makes me very proud of the entire team. We had to cope with injuries and the very late arrival of our doubles players, but once again we managed it with strong team spirit and excellent preparation on site,” said Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann.
