Andrea Vavassori has arrived at the Olbia Challenger in Sardinia, ready to compete in both singles and doubles at the ATP Challenger 125 event, organized by MEF Tennis Events at Tennis Club Terranova. Ranked 258th in singles and currently the world’s sixth-ranked doubles player, Vavassori aims to gather crucial ATP points in singles to secure a spot in the 2025 Australian Open qualifiers. Fresh off his US Open mixed doubles triumph with Sara Errani and his qualification for the ATP Finals alongside Simone Bolelli, he will face No. 8 seed Jan Choinski in the main draw.

On Monday Vavassori met the media representatives, reflecting on his season as well as future goals and expressed his ambition to perform well in Olbia.

“I’m up against a tough opponent like Choinski. I haven’t played much in singles this year, but I’ve kept myself in shape and focused my training on singles as well. I’ve used these days to fine-tune a few things, and I expect a battle on the court,” said Vavassori.

He also shared his desire to be part of the Davis Cup team in Malaga, hinting at a possible doubles pairing with Jannik Sinner.

“Jannik is a phenomenon, and we’ve clearly seen that,” said Vavassori. “Even in doubles, he’s a tough opponent for anyone. We could form two teams with the players we have. I want to be in Malaga, but the captain will decide.”

Landaluce knocks out Mayot

Monday’s first-round action at the Olbia Challenger saw a dominant performance by Spanish youngster Martin Landaluce, who defeated No. 3 seed Harold Mayot of France 6-1, 6-2. Despite some physical issues, Landaluce remained focused and is prepared for his next match, where he will face either Jacopo Berrettini or Stefano Travaglia.

Federico Arnaboldi of Italy was not as fortunate, exiting the tournament after a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Czech Dalibor Svrcina.
