On Tuesday, the WTA conducted the group stage draws for the WTA Finals Riyadh presented by PIF, bringing together the Top 8 singles players and Top 8 doubles teams in the world.
The official draw ceremony is the first of a week-long schedule of activities leading up to the prestigious season-ending tournament, which includes the singles and doubles group portraits, community engagement events and WTA Foundation initiatives, with match play beginning on Saturday, November 2 at 3:30pm local time at the King Saud University Sports Arena.
Tournament Director and WTA Finals former champion Garbiñe Muguruza helped to conduct the draw ceremony and was joined by defending singles champion Iga Swiatek and the doubles team of Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk.
This year’s four groups are named after the colors of the flag of Saudi Arabia (Green and White) in addition to the overall theme for the 2024 WTA Finals (Purple and Orange).
Singles – Purple – Aryna Sabalenka, Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina, Zheng Qinwen
Singles – Orange – Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Barbora Krejcikova
Doubles – Green – Lyudmyla Kichenok & Jelena Ostapenko, Hsieh Su-Wei & Elise Mertens, Nicole Melichar-Martinez & Ellen Perez, Katerina Siniakova & Taylor Townsend
Doubles – White – Gabriela Dabrowski & Erin Routliffe, Sara Errani & Jasmine Paolini, Caroline Dolehide & Desirae Krawczyk, Chan Hao-Ching & Veronika Kudermetova
The WTA Finals Riyadh presented by PIF features the world’s Top 8 singles and doubles teams competing in a round-robin format with the singles champion lifting the WTA Finals Billie Jean King Trophy and the doubles champions earning the WTA Finals Martina Navratilova Trophy.
