TURIN, November 15, 2024 (ATP Press Release)

Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic have earned Year-End ATP Doubles No. 1 presented by PIF honours as a team for the first time.

Pavic had achieved the feat on three previous occasions with three different partners. Arevalo is part of the year-end No. 1 duo for the first time.

“I’m extremely happy for this achievement. If you see it in a way, you can see that it’s one year, because it’s the year-end No. 1. But for me it’s more than that,” Arevalo said. “It’s a team effort of many years. I know that me and Mate have only been playing for one season. But individually, our teams have been working for many years and I think this is just the product of our effort individually and now in the 2024 season together as a team.”

The Salvadoran-Croatian team formed a new partnership in 2024 and have made the most of it, surging deep into tournaments on every surface to earn their place atop the doubles circuit.

Arevalo and Pavic won their first Grand Slam championship together at Roland Garros, one of their four triumphs as a pair in 2024. They also were victorious at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, Hong Kong and Geneva.

The year-end No. 1 team has tallied a 45-19 record and is still competing. Arevalo and Pavic are 1-1 in Group Bob Bryan action at the Nitto ATP Finals and they have an opportunity to advance to the knockout semi-finals at the season finale.

“This is a dream come true for me. This is an amazing week,” Arevalo said. “Ending the year as the No. 1 team is something that I just could have dreamt about and now it’s real.”

Arevalo and Pavic both missed out on the Nitto ATP Finals in 2023. However, in their first tournament as a team in Hong Kong to begin the season, they captured the crown with the loss of only one set. They have not looked back since.

In addition to their four titles, the Salvadoran and Croatian advanced to the Rome final, semi-finals at the US Open, Monte-Carlo and Montreal, and the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. Arevalo and Pavic are also tied for No. 1 in the individual PIF ATP Doubles Rankings.

Pavic’s previous Year-End ATP Doubles No. 1 presented by PIF finishes came in 2018 (w/Oliver Marach), 2020 (w/Bruno Soares) and 2021 (w/Nikola Mektic).

“I’m very happy with the achievement,” Pavic said. “Every team starts the season with this goal, to be the best at the end of the year. I’m very glad we managed to achieve that and of course I want to give a special thanks, use the opportunity to thank my coach, Oliver Marach.

“I was year-end No. 1 for the first time in my career in 2018 playing alongside him and this is now the fourth time. He is in a different role as my coach from last year, so he helped me a lot to get there and to get back on the top. Very happy with everything, with the whole year, and hopefully I can do it some other time in the future.”
