Fabio Fognini and Lukas Neumayer will compete in Sunday’s singles championship match of the II Montemar Challenger ENE Construccion, which is the final tournament held on Spanish soil this season. The €74,825 clay-court event is taking place at the Club Atletico Montemar in Alicante, Valencia.
Top seed Fognini fought past Spanish qualifier Inaki Montes de la Torre 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-0 in the stage of the last four on Saturday. The 37-year-old wild card entry from Italy capitalized on seven of his 17 break-point chances and won 56 per cent of the total points played to advance in two hours and 46 minutes.

Neumayer also had to go the distance battling past local wild card entry Pol Martin Tiffon 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. The 22-year-old Austrian broke his rival’s serve six times to secure victory in two hours and 26 minutes.
Fognini is seeking his eighth Challenger career title, his first of the season. Neumayer could lift his maiden trophy at Challenger level. The pair will meet for the first time.
Drzewiecki/Matuszewsk triumph in doubles
Later in the evening, Karol Drzewiecki and Piotr Matuszewsk captured the doubles title. The top seeds from Poland defeated Daniel Rincon from Spain and Abdullah Shelbayh of Jordan 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 10 minutes.
Drzewiecki and Matuszewsk split €4,250 in prize money and earned 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
