ORTISEI/STARNBERG, December 7, 2024
In the picturesque tennis hall of Runggaditsch in Ortisei, Weronika Falkowska turned the stage of the Raiffeisen ITF Women’s Val Gardena Südtirol into a personal triumph. The 24-year-old Polish claimed both the singles and doubles titles over the weekend at the ITF World Tennis Tour W25 event.
Falkowska faced home favourite Silvia Ambrosio, representing TC Rungg, in the singles final on Saturday. Despite two close sets, Falkowska triumphed 6-4, 7-5. She credited her composure and adherence to her game plan as the keys to victory, saying, “I was more consistent today and stuck to my match strategy.”
World No. 535 Falkowska claimed her eighth career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour, earning €3,542 in prize money as well as 25 WTA Ranking points following her victory in South Tyrol.
On Friday, Falkowska paired with Sweden’s Lisa Zaar to win the doubles title, fending off two match points against Ekaterina Ovcharenko and Emily Webley-Smith. This marked Falkowska’s 23rd ITF doubles title.
The tournament organizers aim to elevate the event to a WTA 125 tournament next year, requiring strong sponsorship support to achieve their vision. Discussions are set for early 2025 to finalize plans.
