GSTAAD, December 10, 2024 (Press Release)

The EFG Swiss Open Gstaad is excited to announce the first participation of the world number 2, Alexander Zverev. Also joining the field are Stan Wawrinka and two-time champion Casper Ruud (ATP 6) from Norway.

The annual sporting highlight set against the picturesque backdrop of the Bernese Oberland will once again delight Swiss tennis fans between July 12th and 20th, 2025. The EFG Swiss Open Gstaad promises to be a top-tier tournament edition next year again.

With Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud, currently ranked number 2 and 6 in the world, two superstars have confirmed their participation. Both Top-10 players have proven to be among the most exciting talents in tennis. Last month at the ATP Finals in Turin, the prestigious yearend event for the top eight players of the season, both reached the semifinals.

The 1.98-meter tall Zverev has already competed in Basel and Geneva, making his debut in Gstaad all the more eagerly anticipated. In addition to his two titles at the ATP Finals, the world number 2 has won 21 other tournaments, including seven Masters 1000 events and Olympic gold in Tokyo 2021. Who knows, maybe Zverev will arrive in the Saanenland in 2025 with a Grand Slam title from Melbourne, Paris, or London in his bag. At the 2020 US Open and this year’s French Open (where he only lost in five sets to Carlos Alcaraz), he came very close to
winning his first major title.

Casper Ruud is already a familiar face in Gstaad. The 25-year-old athlete from Oslo experienced love at first sight with the alpine village. In his debut year in 2021, he lifted the heavy granite trophy, and twelve months later, Ruud defended the title and achieved his best ever career ranking of world number 2. It’s wonderful that he has decided to return to the place of his double triumph. The tournament organisers would like to send a heartfelt “Welcome back” to the friendly Scandinavian on behalf of all the fans.

The confirmation of Stan Wawrinka’s participation is sure to make Swiss tennis fans’ hearts beat faster. Next summer, the Swiss icon will turn 40, but his passion for the game burns as brightly as ever. There are no thoughts of retirement for “Stan the Man”, and spectators in Gstaad will have the chance to see for themselves.
