ITF Press Release, January 6, 2025

Nations competing in the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers 1st Round have announced their teams, with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Norway’s Casper Ruud, Australia’s Alex de Minaur and Denmark’s Holger Rune all set to represent their countries.

Rune and Djokovic will go head-to-head at a blockbuster clash between Denmark and Serbia in Copenhagen, while De Minaur leads a strong Australian team for their away tie against Sweden in Stockholm. Former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios has also been selected for Australia, the 29-year-old returning to his nation’s Davis Cup squad for the first time since 2019.

Among the other players selected for their nations are: Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina), Marin Cilic (Croatia), Arthur Fils (France), Joao Fonseca (Brazil), Nicolas Jarry (Chile), Jiri Lehecka (Czechia), Tomas Machac (Czechia), Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (France), Kei Nishikori (Japan), Cameron Norrie (Great Britain) and Denis Shapovalov (Canada).

Norway’s tie against Argentina will take place on Thursday 30-Friday 31 January, with the other 12 Qualifiers 1st Round ties taking place on either Friday 31 January-Saturday 1 February or Saturday 1-Sunday 2 February.

The venue for Israel’s tie against Germany is still to be announced. Both nations will name their teams once the venue and surface are confirmed.

Ties will be played as best-of-five matches, with two singles matches on day one, followed by the doubles match and the two reverse singles matches on day two. All matches are played as best-of-three tiebreak sets.

The 13 winning nations in the Qualifiers 1st Round will advance to the Qualifiers 2nd Round in September, where they will join 2024 runners-up Netherlands in seven home-or-away ties. The seven winners from the Qualifiers 2nd Round will then join 2024 world champions Italy at the 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna in November.

The 13 losing nations in the Qualifiers 1st Round will compete in World Group I ties in September.

A further 26 home-and-away Davis Cup ties are also taking place during the same week as the Qualifiers 1st Round, with 13 ties in the World Group I Play-offs and 13 ties in the World Group II Play-offs. Team announcements for the World Group I and World Group II Play-offs will be made on Tuesday 21 January.

More details on the amended 2025 Davis Cup format, which the ITF announced in September 2024, are available on the Davis Cup website.
